Merrill Cook for US Senate 2010

Former Congressman and US Senate candidate, Merrill Cook, comments on the war.

“I would like to start off by saying that our troops and commanders, including Secretary of Defense Gates, and Generals McChrystal, and Petraeus, have done and are doing an excellent job with what resources and rules they have been given. My wife and I pray for their success. Unfortunately there are several things that are getting in the way of our brave men and women doing their jobs.”

“Supporting the troops, though very important, is not the issue here”, said Cook at Trolley Square yesterday. “Every war since World War II we have entered, were wars under UN resolutions and executive decree but not by a declaration of war from Congress, as article 1 Section 8 of the US Constitution clearly states. Not declaring war leads to vague objectives, which leads to a quagmire. If we are going to continue this war then we need to clearly have Congress declare it, not the President, and definitely not the U.N.” says Cook.

Cook posted on his campaign website, www.merrillcookforsenate.com, that he supports the troops and that he is, “opposed to our troops being put under any foreign command, including the United Nations. Our troops swear to support and defend the Constitution, not foreign powers.” We must stand up for our troops and not allow them to be submitted to the unconstitutional kangaroo courts like the International Criminal Court.
